This 5-week class is perfect for anyone new to pottery. You’ll learn the fundamentals of working with clay, including shaping pieces on the pottery wheel and hand-building. We’ll cover essential skills such as centering, pulling, trimming, glazing, and decorative techniques. All materials and tools are provided, and by the end of the course you’ll have several finished pieces to take home and enjoy.
Week 1 — Introduction to Wheel Throwing
Learn the basics of the wheel, including centering clay and forming simple shapes.
Week 2 — Trimming & Handles
Refine your wheel-thrown pieces by trimming and learn how to create and attach handles.
Week 3 — Glazing
Explore glaze techniques, color choices, and application methods to complete bisque pieces.
Week 4 — Hand Building
Discover hand-building skills such as slabs, coils, and sculptural forms.
Week 5 — Finalizing & Pickup Prep
Finish any remaining pieces and prepare items for firing and pickup.
Students in this 5-week course may use Open Studio hours Thursday–Sunday, 10:00am–4:30pm to practice, finish class projects, or create additional pieces at no extra cost throughout the duration of the course.
If you must miss a class, you may schedule a make-up session during Open Studio hours or attend the next available weekly session covering the same topic.
